Ham & Cheese Egg Roll Video Tutorial

These Ham and Cheese Egg Rolls are the perfect appetizer or snack! I’ve been thinking about this recipe since the beginning of the year. The idea popped into my head as I was drumming up recipe ideas to create with leftover holiday food. Egg Rolls have been so popular this year; I had to make a recipe and put my spin on it! So, if you like ham and cheddar cheese, this recipe it’s just for you. It’s so amazing!

Egg Rolls are honestly everybody’s favorite thing. For this recipe, I used Nasoya egg roll wraps that can be found refrigerated in the produce section by the vegan products. You can use leftover holiday ham or buy ham from the grocery store. I recommend cheddar cheese as it blends so well with the salty taste of the ham. You should also pan-sear your ham in a little canola or vegetable oil to ensure the most flavor. For the cheddar cheese, I suggest getting the cheddar cheese block and grating it instead of buying pre-shredded cheese. Cheese in the block form just melts better; trust me!

Wrapping Technique

I show you how to wrap an Egg Roll in my YouTube video tutorial. My main tip is to make sure you do not overstuff the eggroll and push your food to one corner of the egg roll wrap.

Dipping Sauce

I enjoy a good ham and cheese sandwiches with mayo and mustard. So it was a no-brainer to create this sauce. Just add mayo, a little mustard, brown sugar, a dab of olive oil, salt and pepper to taste and voilà – You ready!

Tips

Make sure your oil is hot by testing it with a tiny drop of water. If the oil sizzles, it’s ready! Fry each egg roll on each side for 2 to 3 minutes or until golden brown. Make sure you leave enough space between each egg roll to make sure it cooks quickly.

Let's Cook

Ham and Cheese Egg Rolls

  1. Heat Canola/Vegetable Oil

Heat 2 inches of Canola/Vegetable oil in a medium-size skillet.  I like frying in a Cast Iron Skillet Best

  2. Pan Seared Ham

Slice Ham and pan sear in olive oil.  Cook on both sides for 2 minutes until slices start to brown

  3. Shred Cheese

While ham cooks, use Grater to Shred Cheddar Cheese

  4. Prep Egg Rolls

Fill a small bowl with water.  On a flat surface, take one egg roll wrap, rub the corners with water ( helps keep egg roll secure).  Fill egg roll wrap with a spoon full of ham and cheese.

  5. Wrap Egg Rolls

Make sure egg roll wrap is the diamond shape on the surface.  Move filling to the corner closest to you. Fold the bottom corner over the filling and tuck underneath. Roll tightly towards the center then fold in the sides, roll again then seal corner with a tiny bit of water.  Repeat with remaining egg rolls.

  6. Frying

Once Oil is hot (test with a sprinkle of water, if it sizzles, it's ready),  fry Egg rolls on each side for 2-3 minutes or until golden brown.

Dipping Sauce

  1. Dipping Sauce

Add all ingredients together and mix well
