It’s that time of year! Time to start cooking warm comfort hearty meals. Bring out the hot soups, stews, cheesy casseroles, and warm desserts. It’s time for comfort food – food that leaves a lingering amazing smell in the house. Food that will make you feel 10 times better after taking one bite. Grilled Cheese Sandwiches definitely fall into the comfort food category and this Charcuterie Grilled Cheese Sandwich is one for the books.

What is a Charcuterie Grilled Cheese Sandwich?

There are so many ways to remix a grilled cheese sandwich. You can add a variety of different cheeses, add meat, sauces, whatever your heart desires. I love Charcuterie Boards, and Italian meats so much, that I wanted to see how a few of the staples ingredients of a Charcuterie board would taste on bread, and voila – Charcuterie Grilled Cheese Sandwich was born!

To me, it made perfect sense. Swap the crackers for a hearty Multigrain bread, and add your favorite Italian meats and cheeses. The two types of meat I used for my Charcuterie Grilled Cheese Sandwich are:: Genoa Salami and Pepperoni. I also added Aged Gouda Cheese and Havarti Cheese as well. The Havarti cheese melts well and adds a buttery taste to the sandwich. While the Aged Gouda cheese balances everything out with its sweeter and nutty taste. To spice this sandwich up a bit and make it a little more similar to a Charcuterie board, I decided to add Red Pepper Jelly. The Red Pepper Jelly adds a little sweet taste that blends so well with the salty meats.

Recipe Substitutions

Leave the pepper Jelly out altogether if you do not like a sweet and salty taste.

Substitute the bread for Sourdough or Whole Wheat Bread.

Swap the meats out or add other Italian meats like Prosciutto, Capocollo, Soppressata, and or Pancetta.

Pairings

Pair your Charcuterie Grilled Cheese with your favorite soup, chips, fresh fruit, nuts, and or steamed vegetables

Description

Charcuterie Grilled Cheese Sandwich is a tasty way to remix Sandwich Day. It's a party in your mouth with warm, sweet, nutty, and salty flavors.

Ingredients

Instructions

  1. Spread Pepper Jelly on 1 side of bread

Spread as much as you like.  I prefer a light spread so the jelly won't overpower the sandwich.

Skip this step if you do not like a sweet and salty mix.

  2. Add 1 slice of Gouda and Havarti Cheese to the same bread
  3. Then add 4 slices of each meat on top of that
  4. Top it off with 1 more slice of each cheese and add the last slice of bread
  5. Spread butter on one side of sandwich, and add it to a Medium sized skillet. Make sure heat level is on medium.
  6. Spread butter on the opposite side of the sandwich, while the buttered side of the sandwich is browning.

Brown each side for about 30 seconds to 1 minute depending on your desired level of brownness

  7. Once done, turn skillet off and cover sandwich with a lid for another 30 seconds.

This helps make your sandwich more ooeeyyy and gooeeyyy

  8. Slice in half and enjoy
