This is by far my favorite recipe! I love a good crispy taco, but this takes things to another level. My Crispy Chicken Tacos recipe combines shredded chicken, canned tomatoes, tomato sauce, and mild cheddar cheese into a yellow corn soft tortilla shell and then fries it on both sides until golden brown. I mean, these crispy bites of heaven are INCREDIBLE!
Preparation
To say I am the 1st person to ever think of this recipe would be a lie, and yall know I don’t do that! This recipe is derived from Mexican culture. They actually call these Tacos Dorados, which means crispy or crunchy tacos in English. You must start with shredded chicken to make these delicious Crispy Chicken Tacos. I typically boil a few chicken breasts in water with onions, garlic, and chicken bullion. Then I shred the chicken, add it to a skillet with extra onions, garlic, canned tomatoes, and tomato sauce. Cook it for about 3 minutes until everything is mixed together well. The next step is filling the soft taco shells with the chicken mixture and cheese and then frying it on both sides until golden brown.
Substitutions and Pairings
You can use a Rotisserie Chicken or pre-shredded chicken to save time on these Crispy Chicken Tacos. This would remove the boiling step all together.
Another option is to select a different protein if you would like as well. Think ground beef, shredded pork, or maybe even mushrooms.
If you are not a fan of frying you can also Pop these in the air fryer as well.
Pair these yummy Crispy Chicken Tacos with Guacamole, Pico de Gallo, Sour Cream, Salsa, Queso, rice, cilantro, beans etc.
You can eat these for lunch or dinner and they make a great appetizer if you’re hosting guest.

Crispy Chicken Tacos
Description
My Crispy Chicken Tacos recipe combines shredded chicken, canned tomatoes, tomato sauce, and mild cheddar cheese into a yellow corn soft tortilla shell and then fries it on both sides until golden brown. I mean, these crispy bites of heaven are INCREDIBLE!
Ingredients
Shredded Chicken Breast
Canned & Prepackaged Goods
Seasonings and Herbs
Instructions
-
Line plate or baking pan with paper towels; set to the side
-
Boil chicken in water with onions, garlic, and bullion in a medium pot over medium-high heat; season with salt and pepper. Once the water begins to boil, reduce heat to medium, cover with a lid and cook for 20-25 minutes. Make sure chicken is cooked thoroughly.
-
Remove chicken from pot into bowl; add a little broth, and let rest for 5 minutes.
-
While the chicken is resting, Wrap tortilla shells in a moist paper towel and warm them up in the microwave for about 15-20 seconds. This will allow you to manipulate the tortilla shells without them breaking.
-
Shred chicken with two forks, add it back to a large skillet with a diced clove of garlic, the leftover onions, tomatoes, tomato sauce, seasonings, herbs, and lime juice. Mix well together and cook for 3-5 minutes on medium-low heat.
-
In a separate skillet, heat 2 inches of frying oil on medium-high heat; until oil shimmers
-
While oil is heating, Prep Crispy Tacos. On a flat surface, add a spoon full of shredded chicken mixture and cheddar cheese to one side of the tortilla shell, and fold the other half of the tortilla shell over the chicken mixture. Keep closed with a toothpick if necessary.
-
Add tacos to oil, fry on one side for about 1 minute, and flip to the other side for another minute or 2. Crispy tacos are done once they are golden brown. Drain on a paper towel once done. Enjoy
